Sage Product Development / Currier Plastics

About Sage Product Development

Sage Product Development of Foxborough, Massachusetts is an engineering, design, and development firm that helps medical device companies take their products from concept to commercialization. The company partners with clients on early concept and feasibility work, full-cycle product development, and project management for failure-intolerant, highly regulated device programs. Sage has worked with more than 100 clients across disposables, reusables, implants, electro-mechanicals, flexible endoscopes, and complex catheter-based systems, playing a role in more than 220 issued patents.

Their capabilities and services include:

  • Early concept and feasibility work for new medical device programs.

  • Full-cycle product development, carrying devices from concept through commercialization.

  • Project management for complex, multi-disciplinary device programs.

  • Contract manufacturing support to carry devices into commercial-scale production.

Sage Product Development has now been acquired by Currier Plastics, an Auburn, New York-based contract development and manufacturing organization serving life sciences customers, and a portfolio company of Sheridan Capital Partners, a private equity firm focused exclusively on healthcare.

Sage's culture has long centered on deep engineering expertise and hands-on partnership with its medical device customers. As part of the acquisition, co-founders Jeffrey Cerier, Jonathan O'Keefe, and Amos Cruz continue with the combined company, and Sage's team joins Currier's platform to bring its concept-to-commercialization capabilities to more medical device customers.

Our Work

  • M&A Strategy

Co-founders Jeffrey Cerier, Jonathan O'Keefe, and Amos Cruz recognized that Sage's next chapter of growth called for a manufacturing partner with the scale to extend its reach to more medical device customers, and they wanted an advisor who could run a disciplined sale process while protecting the culture the founders had built. They engaged Middle Branch Partners to represent Sage through the transaction based on the firm's deep industry expertise and up-to-date knowledge of the current M&A market.

  • M&A Due Diligence

Middle Branch Partners prepared a sell-side package that positioned Sage's track record — more than 100 clients and a role in over 220 issued patents — for prospective strategic buyers, and advised the founders on prevailing market multiples and deal structures.

  • Evaluating Strategic Buyers

Currier Plastics stood out for its strong positioning for growth and the clear synergies between the two companies, backed by Sheridan Capital Partners, a private equity firm focused exclusively on healthcare. Our team confirmed that a combination with Currier would fit Sage's goals: continuity for employees and customers, a broader platform for Sage's engineers, and a path for the founders to keep building the business they started.

  • Negotiating the Acquisition

Middle Branch Partners advised on a Letter of Intent agreeable to both Sage and Currier, then advised Sage throughout due diligence and worked closely alongside the company's legal counsel to carry the transaction to a successful close, so employees and customers experienced continuity throughout.

Results

The transaction closed with Currier Plastics' acquisition of Sage Product Development, and Sage's founders and engineering team joined Currier's platform. The combination gives Currier's life sciences customers a single, trusted partner across the full product journey — from concept through commercial-scale manufacturing — while extending Sage's capabilities to more medical device companies. The outcome positions Sage for its next phase of growth while preserving the engineering culture and customer commitments that built the company.

Sage’s founders built a team medical device companies trust to solve hard engineering problems early, well before a product ever reaches manufacturing. Finding a partner like Currier, with the scale to carry that expertise further while keeping what made Sage special intact, is exactly the kind of outcome we aim for on every engagement.
